# Rate limits

The Bigdata.com API applies the following rate limits:

| Scope | Limit |
| - | - |
| Per API key | 500 requests per minute |
| Per IP address | 1,500 requests per minute, across all Bigdata API endpoints |

## Per API key

Each API key can send up to **500 requests per minute**.

We recommend creating multiple API keys, at least one per environment, so that workflows running in your development environment do not impact the performance of your production environment. You can create and manage your API keys in the [Developer Platform > API Keys](https://platform.bigdata.com/api-keys). See [Authentication](/api-rest/authentication) for more details.

## Per IP address

Each IP address can send up to **1,500 requests per minute**. This limit applies across all Bigdata API endpoints, regardless of how many API keys are used from that IP address.
