# bigdata_delete_watchlist

> Delete one or more watchlists you own.

## Overview

The `bigdata_delete_watchlist` tool permanently deletes one or more watchlists from your Bigdata.com account. Only watchlists the caller owns can be deleted. The watchlists disappear from the Bigdata App as well.

<Warning>
  Deletion is permanent and cannot be undone through the MCP tools.
</Warning>

## When to Use

Delete Watchlist is ideal for:

* **Cleaning up:** Removing temporary watchlists created for a one-off screen or comparison
* **Retiring lists:** Deleting a portfolio or comps set that is no longer tracked
* **Bulk removal:** Deleting several watchlists in a single call

## How It Works

1. **List** owned watchlists with [`bigdata_get_watchlist`](/mcp-reference/tools/bigdata-get-watchlist) if the user has not supplied the IDs
2. **Confirm** with the user which watchlists to delete, by name
3. **Call** `bigdata_delete_watchlist` with the list of IDs
4. **Verify** by listing owned watchlists again

## Parameters

| Parameter | Type | Required | Description |
| - | - | - | - |
| `ids` | string\[] (1 or more) | Yes | IDs of the watchlists to delete. |

### Important Notes

* Never guess IDs. Take them from `bigdata_get_watchlist` or from the watchlist URL in the Bigdata App
* An unknown ID returns an error, for example `Watchlist <id> not found`
* Watchlists shared with you but owned by someone else cannot be deleted through this tool

## Data Returned

Returns a JSON object confirming the deleted watchlists:

| Field | Description |
| - | - |
| `ids` | IDs of the watchlists that were deleted |

```json theme={null}
{
  "ids": ["ea4c5039-6edb-45c1-9c51-37d3ab9689b0"]
}
```

## Usage Monitoring

The tool `bigdata_delete_watchlist` does not consume any quota.

## Practical Tips

### Delete instead of emptying

To stop tracking a list entirely, delete the watchlist rather than removing all of its items with [`bigdata_edit_watchlist`](/mcp-reference/tools/bigdata-edit-watchlist). To keep the list but change its contents, use edit instead.
